Our Chiropractic Technique
What is NUCCA?
The National Upper Cervical Chiropractic Association (NUCCA)is a specialty within chiropractic. Unlike any other kind of care, NUCCA has developed a highly advanced procedure that is both an extremely precise and a gentle technique. Without twisting, popping, or cracking the neck, a gentle touch and controlled contact on the first vertebrae is designed to restore balance to the spine and increases the body’s natural healing ability. Even though the primary focus is the neck, the effect of the correction influences the whole spine and all body systems. In 1986, President Ronald Reagan recognized NUCCA and its founder, Dr. Ralph Gregory, for the organization’s outstanding commitment to natural, safe chiropractic care.
The NUCCA procedure influences one of the highest control centers over body balance, the brain stem and central nervous system. The C-1 vertebra, also known as the Atlas, is a small ring-like bone located at the top of the spine and the base of the skull that surrounds the brain stem. When the spine is subjected to stress it can become misaligned beginning at the Atlas vertebrae. The spine will then compensate for the misalignment of the head and neck by the rest of the spine moving and twisting out of their normal positions. This phenomenon is known as the Atlas Subluxation Complex (ASC) or the ASC Syndrome. The nerves in our spinal column are very sensitive to pressure and stress. When the spine becomes misaligned sufficiently it stresses the nerves, compromises their normal impulses, and changes the function throughout the body.
Upper Cervical Adjustment
The upper cervical adjustment depends upon precise mathematical calculations, physics, and biomechanics. X-rays are a critical part of ensuring the spinal correction is accurate and successful. These x-rays determine the direction and degree of spinal misalignment and how to properly restore the spine to normal.
Why Choose NUCCA Care?
- Full spine structural corrections can be achieved in contrast to the limited effects of general manipulation.
- Long-term improvements in health, comfort and well-being can be experienced, instead of only short-term relief.
- Adjustments can be fine tuned with precision to satisfy the individual needs of the patient.
Unsurpassed gentleness and safety characterize this procedure. - It has a 50-plus year clinical track record and the support of over 75 peer reviewed research papers – more than any other chiropractic technique.
